Ruma Kohli has over 15 years of manufacturing and environmental engineering experience at IBM Microelectronics Division, which is one of the world's largest producers of semiconductor technology. She has a Master of Science in Organic Chemistry and currently is the Chemical Management Program Manager of the Environmental Program at IBM Burlington.

Her current job responsibilities include working with site's process, equipment and facilities engineering teams to develop and implement chemical use reduction, hazardous waste reduction and chemical substitution ideas for focus hazardous waste streams and chemicals. She is also responsible for:

  • Development and implementation of the Water Conservation Program
  • Management of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) program
  • Providing for an evaluation of IBM products' compliance with IBM environmental standards and legal/regulatory environmental requirements
  • Providing marketing and customer support on the product environmental concerns and issues
  • Managing Chemical Inventory Management Process
  • Providing technical direction for Site's chemical management team members.

Ruma was the recipient of 2002 Governor's award for environmental excellence in Pollution prevention for Water use reduction in the Chemical Mechanical Polish step of wafer fabrication. IBM has received Governor's awards for environmental excellence in pollution prevention for 10 consecutive years. Ruma has received and been involved in IBM Burlington process teams that have received 11 Corporate Technical Excellence Awards since 1995 (five in the last three years). Ruma also received the Governor's IBM Chairman's environmental award for the IBM Burlington facility.
